Read: Men Rape Us And You Let Them

A Thomas Point of View

One of my favorite sites is For Harriet and I read such a powerful essay the other day that I just had to share it. This writer’s words resonate with so many of us that have been victims of sexual assault. You know that I’m a survivor, but many of you are also a survivor. Many of your friends, family or acquaintances may have suffered sexual assault or abuse. It never ends.

Before Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein or the many other famous men that have been accused, there are just normal men out here that are hurting women and children. No one should have to be a victim of abuse. No one should have to tell the story of their #metoo assault for you to realize that we have to be advocates. Advocates for every one.

My prayer is that you will start seeing that this is a problem…

I am much more-

I can relate.

IMG_5568.JPGTo all the friends
I pushed aside-
Sent every call,
To voice message .

Somedays my dark
Empowers me,
I blink, I breathe,
That’s all I can be.

To all the friends,
Who stood by me,
From dawn to dusk
And the dark in between.

When sorrow wipes
Aside my joy,
Your thoughts, remind me,
I am much more.

Much more than pain
Much more than tears
Much more than another,
Sad ending.

Because of you-
I am much more.

Parenting Rights

A Thomas Point of View

One of the things that I refuse to apologize for is how I choose to raise my son. I don’t think anyone starts off trying to be a bad parent (okay, most people don’t). However, for the sake of this argument we will say that many of you are good working people that love your children and you’re trying to do the best that you can in order to raise them to become independent and productive citizens. Do we make mistakes? Absolutely.

No one is perfect. We try things with our children. Some things work. Others need to be modified and some just don’t work. That’s why it requires us to keep working at it. To keep parenting. However, your fundamental right as a parent is that you can choose how to raise your children however you want.

Here are some things that people may question you on:

The Heart of the Matter

A Thomas Point of View

Oh, I am very weary, Though tears no longer flow; My eyes are tired of weeping, My heart is sick of woe. – Anne Bronte

I believe in love because the greatest love ever shown was the love God has given me. The love of my family and friends. Love is a good thing. But, what happens when that love doesn’t last? What happens when you can no longer make it work?

You keep loving. I’ve shared my story. Girl meets boy. Girl falls in love with boy who made her laugh. Girl and boy marry and have a child. Girl and boy forget how to love. Girl wants a divorce. It wasn’t an easy decision. I agonized over it for a long time. I wanted to make my marriage work and try to fix it. I couldn’t.

What followed was months of tears, pain and depression. I literally became…

Listen to Mama…

mamasideeye Mama throwing serious side-eye!

My 22 year-old son and I are very close.

We always have been.

From the moment he was born, he and I were inseparable.

I can remember turning down plenty of opportunities to go hang out with friends; opting instead to stay home with my baby boy.

People would say, “I know the perfect babysitter.”

To which I would respond with something along the lines of, “Well, I don’t know that person and neither does my son…so there’s that.”

Sounds harsh doesn’t it?

Oh well!

Anyway, suffice it to say, whenever my son (or my daughter) would ask to do things that were borderline ‘iffy,’ I’d think long and hard before deciding whether or not I would allow them to partake.

And, whenever I decided NOT to allow them to do something, I would explain, sometimes ad nauseum,  why I came to the conclusion that I did.

Then I would punctuate…

Blessings at Christ House

A Thomas Point of View

My girlfriends and I were given the great opportunity to be of service theSaturday after Thanksgiving. We volunteered at Christ House. What an amazing time we had! Serving others allows you to remember to count your blessings and that evenJesus came to serve.

Mark 10:45(NRSV)

45For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

In late September, I reached out to some of my girlfriends and asked them would they be interested in volunteering with me. We always say that we’re too busy and we wish we had more time to catch up so this was a way for us to do both. My friends heard the call and answered. I am thankful.

Although our first group effort lacked two members we made due. Christ House has a small kitchen so they can only have…

Motivational Monday Moment – 12/12/16

A Thomas Point of View

My Motivational Monday Moment is about survival.

survival

Survival as a noun is the state or fact of continuing to live or exist in spite of your circumstances. In other words, your circumstances may be horrific, your journey may be treacherous, your path may be blocked, but you are still surviving. Survival is key to it all. You must survive it.

I started thinking about this on Saturday when I went to the hairdressers. Remember, I told you that my hair salon is like free therapy? It really is. Well, we women were in there talking about our lives and dating.

I was speaking to a woman that I hadn’t seen in over 3 years. Last time we saw each other, I was married. Now, I’m divorced. She explained that she’s separated and divorcing her husband. She spoke about her circumstances and even though she left, she has peace of mind…

What Can I Say?

A Thomas Point of View

I know it’s been a while since I wrote a post. Please forgive me. Life got in the way. I went to sleep the night of Tuesday, November 8th praying that God’s will be done in the presidential election. I awoke the next day realizing that Donald Trump had won the election. Wow! I sighed. I cried. I felt defeated.

I said “God, you are Sovereign. Your will be done.” It was. I’ve come to terms with it. Accepted it. Released all pain and fear to the one who leads my life. He knows what’s going on. I choose to trust in Him.

martin-luther-king-jr-quotes-12

That being said, I am like many of you. I will not tolerate any form of discrimination, fear or hate. I will not go quietly in the night and allow bullies to rule the land where my ancestors died. Can’t you hear it?

Freedom.
